The three most important dimensions to pay attention to are shank diameter, tip size, and blade length. Let's dive into the details.
The shank diameter determines the strength of the tool body. Therefore, we should choose a reasonable shank size to prevent the tool from breaking. Generally speaking, for relief depth within 2 cm, an 8mm shank is sufficient. For reliefs exceeding 2 cm, we can go with a 10mm shank. If the user requires high-speed working with a good performance cnc stone engraving machine, we recommend using diamond ball nose end mills with a 12mm shank diameter.
Under the premise of meeting the requirement on fine details, it's better to choose a cutter with a larger tip. The larger the tip, the more durable the tool. For example, if a 6mm tip can meet the engraving precision requirements, please do not go with a 3mm or 4mm tip.
When choosing a blade length for engraving, it's important to consider the required carving depth and the flatness of the stone. Make sure to pick a length that includes a margin to protect the handle from wear and tear. For example, if the required engraving depth is 26mm, we should choose a tool with a blade length of 30mm.
