Practical Tips – How to Select the Surface Planer Router Bits

• The diamond router bit for planing is generally used for carving soft stones such as marble, bluestone, sandstone, etc. They have the advantages of fast carving speed and excellent carving effect.

• Bottom cleaning application: Choose a flat-bottom router bit with the appropriate diameter based on the size and precision of the pattern or text to be engraved. The guideline of selecting the blade diameter is to choose a large one as much as possible while ensuring that it can adequately reach all pattern details and the final outcome is within an acceptable range. Although the smaller the diameter, the finer the finished details,  it also leads to increased time and production costs.

• Cutting application: When cutting, the appropriate shank diameter should be selected in combination with the handle load and engraving resistance (customers may have different preferences. EagleTec CNC recommends using a flat-bottomed straight edge router bit for cutting.

Based on our experience, here are the guidelines from us:

If the cutting depth does not exceed 20mm, please choose a 6mm shank.

If the cutting depth is between 20mm and 30mm, please go with an 8mm shank.

If the cutting depth is between 30mm and 50mm, please take a 10mm shank.

If the cutting depth is between 50mm and 80mm, a 12mm shank is the choice.
