EagleTec EA-COM16 is a structured light (white light) high resolution 3D scanner for constructing 3D model STL files. It is an aided equipment of cnc foam router, which is usually applied to do reverse modeling for CNC machining, reverse engineering, car and giant statues rapid prototyping. It uses the most advanced structural light non-contact photogrammetry technology in the world. With the advantages of high-speed, high precision, non-impacting the object surface, the measuring area can be adjusted freely according to actual requirement; Therefore, from micro scale to large objects such as automative, the high resolution 3D scanners can measure them perfectly.
It scans and measures a real object to collect data on its shape, dimension and possibly its appearance. The collected data can then be used to construct digital three-dimensional models in extension name of STL, PLY, OBJ, ASC, and 3D3. As we know, the tradition method to create 3-dimension model is by CAM design software, now the 3d scanner makes this job much easier than that. As long as you have a real-world object sample, you can construct a 3d model of it via this scanner within several hours only. It is cost effective.
The high precision 3D scanner serves as model creator for CNC machining. With it, the production process is like this:
• Using the scanner to measure the object and get the STL scanned model (file extension ***.stl).
• Import the model in CAM software (such as ArtCAM, Power Mill, MasterCAM and JD Paint) to create the CNC machining toolpath (G code).
• Take the G-code toolpath to starts CNC machining.
The technology behind the 3D scanner here is structured light (structured light has two types: white light and blue light; the one applied to our scanner is white light); the basic principle of structured light is the triangulation. EagleTec 3D scanning system works in this way: white light is projected into a form that is distorted at the surface of the object (usually a series of parallel lines) by the projector. The 2 pieces of vision sensors (camera) captures this distortion from multi-angle, triangulation calculates the distance to a specific point of the object, and the three-dimensional coordinates are used to reconstruct the number in more detail.
● For experienced designers, by using CAM design software, it certainly takes about several days for you to construct a 3D model design stl file. But if you use the 3D scanner here, it is just a job of several hours or possibly less than one hour to complete.
● For beginners, if use the software to construct 3D models, first thing they have to learn is how to use the software and this course perhaps needs two or three months. While, if a beginner use EagleTec 3d scanner to make models, the course to learn how to use scanner only needs 3 or 4 days by self-study. Please noted, just by self-study you can learn how to make your own 3d models, no need to buy any course to learn it. This is very important for beginners. A: As we are trying to interpret above, EagleTec 3D scanner is based on structured light triangulation technique, the output finished model is in extension name of ***.stl, a integrated model which is consisted by thousands of triangles.
A: Needless to say, the scanned model can be put in CAM software for toolpath creating. Just before that, we need to complete a small patching work. Since there will be several holes in the scanned model, we have to patch them in software Geomagic Studio (we will provide it along with scanner) first. And next, we can put the model in CAM software (ArtCAM, MasterCAM, PowerMill or JD Paint) to create the CNC machining toolpath (usually known as G code).
A: Yes, there is. It can be done simply by performing the “distance” order under the “Analysis” column in software of Geomagic Studio. Please refer to following picture:
A: In fact, you can only open the scanned STL model in AutoCAD and check how it looks, but STL is not editable in CAD software. Of course, if you are experienced in reverse engineering, you can transfer it into an appropriate file extension that can be edited in AutoCAD. This process just requires professional skills to complete.
